Diamonds were formed deep within the earth and brought to the surface by explosions of molten rock, other stones like topaz, tourmaline and aquamarine, crystallised slowly from hot fluids and gases as they cooled and solidified, far below the surface of the earth. While others formed from liquids filtered into cracks and pockets in rock, like Australian opal. Garnet and jade, formed when rocks were heated and pressurised by earth movements, and recombined to form new, different minerals. All of these cherished stones, took millions of years to develop, but through primitive and modern technology we pulled them from the earth, cut, polished, and manipulated them, turning pieces of earth and mineral into the beautiful, sparkly stones we so highly valued today.
